Squee! I am so excited to have new monitors for my Squee! I am so excited to have new monitors for my desktop. My previous setup was ok but I usually have so many windows open when I work that everything gets so very cluttered.

Now I have three 27" screens and I love it. I can organize my screen space and I already feel more productive.

Even though I am a traditional artist, I work on my desktop a lot. Design client projects, communication, plan and compose illustrations, research, and the list goes on.

What does your workstation look like?
In March I participated in a panel at the Tucson F In March I participated in a panel at the Tucson Festival of Books @tucsonfestivalofbooks.

@sharonskinner_author_bookcoach and @lorialexanderbooks and I talked about local Arizona resources for aspiring writers and illustrators. Our session was well attended and we fielded lots of questions about what it takes to journey down the path to publication in children's publishing. It was a great session and I look forward to participating again next year.

Are you an aspiring writer or illustrator of children's books? If so, what have you found have been your greatest challenges? I'd love your thoughts. It will be helpful to prep for next year's event.

Here is another art process video of one of my ill Here is another art process video of one of my illustrations. I love cute creatures and fairies. 😊 As a traditional mixed-media artist I add countless layers before a piece is complete.

I like how this one turned out, but I’m not too thrilled with my video skills. I have a great little camera and a camera stand that works well, but sometimes I bump into the arm holding the camera or the video shuts off without me realizing it. The result is that my noggin is in the way, or I miss entire portions of the painting process.

Do have any suggestions on the best setup or process to film a work-in-progress video? I would be eternally grateful for any advice you could share that would make my videos better. Thank you in advance. T.

What's the difference between a frog and a toad?  What's the difference between a frog and a toad? A clam and an oyster? Or a butterfly and a moth?

As an animal lover and alpaca mama, you can imagine how tickled I was to see Karen Jameson’s latest book “A Llama Is Not An Alpaca.” I don’t recall how often people have asked me how my llamas are doing. My standard response is, “they are alpacas, NOT llamas.” Yes, there is a big difference. Kudos to my friend Karen Jameson, who is also one of my clients, for understanding this distinction and penning a book about this and other misidentified animals. The book is written by Karen Jameson and illustrated by the UK-based illustrator, Lorna Scobie. It was published by Running Press Kids and will be officially released on March 7, 2023.

Here is the book in a nutshell: Animal riddles posed in delightful poetic language paired with scientific facts about animals accompanied by adorable illustrations. Kids will love this book and teachers will find it a perfect addition to their classroom libraries.

The question-and-answer portion of the book is written in delightful rhyme, while the additional factoids are noted in prose. This is a clever separation between the two elements of the book. It allows for a lyrical and engaging first read that will have kids shouting out the answers to the riddles. Then, on subsequent read-throughs, the factoids can be studied and the illustrations explored. Not only is this a great read-aloud, but it is also a book that kids will want to read over and over again.

Lorna Scobie’s illustrations are darling. The expressions of the animals are sweet and make even the scarier alligator less daunting. The bright and vibrant colors of the art match the vibe of the infectious rhyme and give the book a happy atmosphere.

I give this one an enthusiastic thumbs up. The book will be a perfect gift for a teacher, animal enthusiast, and picture book lover. You can get the book through most bookstores and online sources. Welcome to February 2022! One of my goals this yea Welcome to February 2022! One of my goals this year is to post Work In Progress (WIP) videos of each illustration I create this year. I finally have a camera and stand set up so that I can paint away while the camera is recording. These initial uploads are my first attempts. I am certain as I become more familiar with creating and posting videos, they will improve.

Any of you YouTube pros out there, if you have any suggestions or advice, I would love your feedback. Is there a best workflow to stick to? Are there preferred formats that I should be using? Should I add voiceovers explaining my thought process? I appreciate any comments you might have.

My illustrations come together by applying layers over layers, countless layers. I've been reluctant to post my progress videos in the past because it takes a long time for my illos to come together and look the way I want them to. There is a whole lot of ugly during the beginning phases of my creations.

But then I realized, I love watching process videos on YouTube and have learned so much from watching other artists create. I thought, maybe someone can pick up some tricks while watching me as I paint. The dreaded inner critic is rather vocal during these early stages of my paintings.

So, I have learned to trust the process. I have to work through each stage of a painting before the "pretty" part finally makes an appearance.
